FAQ

  • What is the meaning behind 'Joyful Movement, Collective Solidarity, Bodily Autonomy'?

Movement for Choice was created in response to the Dobbs Decision. As a result, bodily autonomy is integral to the work we do. When thinking about the impact we want to have in the community, and the way we want to come together, collective solidarity is what comes to mind. We want those who join us for classes and events to know we are in the fight for bodily autonomy for ALL, together. In this work, which quite often is filled with losses and despair, either politically or personally, we want to root ourselves in the joy that comes when we succeed. Joyful movement is a reminder, and a way of living, that centers our work because we want our approach to effecting positive change to be one that spreads the joy from movement, community building, and education.

  • If you could tell someone one thing about M4C, what would you tell them?

Movement for Choice - our structure, our mission, and the way we build community - is the future (and in some cases, the present) of social movements. Through community-driven movements, real policies can be formed. When people think of what they want in the future of social movements, whether that be working with an organization that shares their values, being surrounded by driven and passionate people, or having the opportunity to use their skills for good, that is what Movement for Choice is bringing to the table. Being involved with Movement for Choice means taking part in an organization that is centering all we do on our foundation (Joyful Movement, Collective Solidarity, Bodily Autonomy) and scaling up with the community we are building without growing out of it.

  • Who are the people behind Movement for Choice?

The people behind Movement for Choice, from our team to those who attend our classes, are those who believe that change starts with us. Whether that is someone who donates regularly or shares our posts on social media, the people behind Movement for Choice are people who are taking the time now to create a better tomorrow.

  • What role does M4C play in the current political and social landscape?

Movement for Choice is intent on building a more inclusive community. To this end, we have dedicated members of our team who help us to take the intentional steps to uplift voices around us, ensure our classes are accessible, and increase our reach with like minded partners. In approaching our work like this, we hope to build lasting relationships with members of our community that are rooted in trust and a commitment to the truth. As we increase our presence in the political and social landscape, we hope to be a source for our community members to turn to when they want information they can trust from people who share their values, all of which are rooted in bodily autonomy for all, specifically with a focus on BIPOC and LQBTQIA+ individuals.

  • How does M4C remain centered on community?

Movement for Choice's centering on community is in everything we do. From the places we hold our classes to the people we collaborate with, we are intentional about uplifting DMV voices and businesses in any way we can. We do this because our community has built us, and in remaining centered on community we can consistently be giving back. Additionally, our focus on community means that we can keep the spotlight on work around us that is just as important to building the future we want to see. Nothing brings us more joy than getting to share our work and collaborate with community members.
