Filling Our Cup: A Gathering for Hope and Healing Post-Election

It’s been years of dedicated advocacy since the fall of ROE and many of us are feeling exhausted and depleted. It’s crucial to recognize these emotions and prioritize self-care, because, as the saying goes, "We cannot pour from an empty cup." Taking the time to recharge and fill our cups is not just an act of self-compassion but a step toward sustaining the energy needed to continue making an impact.

Sign up here to join “Fill Our Cup” on December 29th at 4 PM EST / 1 PM PST

Menstruation Equality Movie Screening

Menstruation Equality Movie Screening

Join us at PLNTR for a screening of the 2023 movie Periodical, directed by Lina Lyte Plioplyte to raise money for Reproductive Justice Marlyand's Little Pink Pantry initiative! Refreshments and snacks will be provided for enjoyment :)

The film Periodical tackles period stigmatization, sexual education, and menstrual justice through a bubbly tone and interviews with journalists, doctors, and menstrual activists. The film explicitly addresses the stigmatization of periods that anyone who menstruates has likely faced at some point in their lives, mentioning the two tropes long associated with periods: that people menstruating are crazy, and that periods are disgusting.

Little Pink Pantry is a grassroots initiative inspired by the successful model of Little Free Libraries but with a focus on providing essential period products instead of books. Our goal is to ensure that no individual in Maryland faces the challenges of period poverty, promoting dignity, equity, and well-being for all menstruators. By providing free and easily accessible period products and raising awareness about period poverty, we aim to foster open conversations and reduce the stigma surrounding menstruation.

From choosing to be celibate to the struggle of creating birth control for men, we intend to cover the different forms birth control can take. This talk is open to all people who are ready to engage in a discussion on the role birth control plays in our lives whether or not you use it! This conversation will result in a resource list to be shared with attendees. The first two people to register will receive a free copy of the book. 📖📚

Book Talk / Fireside Chat - You're The Only One I've Told: Stories Behind Abortion by Dr. Meera Shah

Book Talk / Fireside Chat - You're The Only One I've Told: Stories Behind Abortion by Dr. Meera Shah

For those who cannot read the book before the event, have no worry! We are framing this book talk as a fireside chat for members of our community to come together and think about the ways our thoughts on abortion have evolved over time.

In an era when abortion has been and continues to be on the ballot, we want our community to come together in the intimate space PLNTR is providing for us to discuss questions such as:

- When did your views about abortion begin to evolve? Have they changed over time?

- What does it mean to have abortion on the ballot?

- How do you navigate spaces where you might be one of few who believe in reproductive freedom?

- How do you make space for reproductive justice in your life?

More on the book (via Goodreads): At a time where reproductive rights are at risk, these vital stories of diverse individuals serve as a reminder of the importance of empathy, finding community and motivating advocacy.

For a long time, when people asked Dr. Meera Shah, Chief medical officer of Planned Parenthood Hudson Peconic, what she did, she would tell them she was a doctor and leave it at that. But when she started to be direct about her work as an abortion provider an interesting thing started to one by one, people would confide that they'd had an abortion themselves. The refrain was often the You're the only one I've told.

This book collects these stories as they've been told to Shah to humanize abortion and to combat myths that persist in the discourse that surrounds it. A wide range of ages, races, socioeconomic factors, and experiences shows that abortion always occurs in a unique context.

Today, a healthcare issue that's so precious and foundational to reproductive, social, and economic freedom for millions of people is exploited by politicians who lack understanding or compassion about the context in which abortion occurs. Stories have the power to break down stigmas and help us to empathize with those whose experiences are unlike our own.
